CCNY Non-Governmental Organization to the United Nations Department of Public Information (CCNY NGO) focuses on becoming an active member of international civil society and on promoting the participation of its academic community in United Nations activities. The project is dedicated to educating future leaders in global affairs.
CCNY NGO concentrates its advocacy efforts on the 2030 Global Agenda for Sustainable Development. In particular, it reaffirms the importance of Sustainable Development Goal 4: “Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong opportunities for all.” CCNY NGO aligns its mission with the Gyeongju Action Plan adopted at the 66th UN DPI/NGO Conference in the Republic of Korea (June, 2016). It takes an active stand with local and global partners to “Promote experiential learning, interdisciplinary studies, online learning, and intercultural exchanges to prepare students and educators to become global citizens.”
CCNY NGO offers an excellent opportunity for all students, regardless of their major, to combine academic training with real life experience in multilateral diplomacy. Through its NGO status, CCNY nominates three representatives to the UN. They are issued UN Grounds Passes allowing them access to meetings and conferences including General Assembly and Security Council sessions. The students also participate in the UN Youth Representatives Program run by the Department of Public Information.
CCNY NGO is led by Rafal Szczurowski, an Adjunct Instructor at the Colin Powell School for Global Leadership. The School’s Dean, Dr. Vincent Boudreau, acts as the organization’s Faculty Advisor.
